Dorsey Moore MBA in Sustainable Management – Principal
Dorsey’s life passion is creating sustainable communities. For the last two decades he has worked in the nonprofit, business and government sectors making local communities more sustainable places to live, work and play. Other noteworthy common threads that run through his personal and professional lives include preserving and protecting open space, sustainable agriculture, local economic development, empowering under-resourced youth and valuing the diversity in our local community. Early in his career he worked for the City of San Jose in two different capacities that helped him understand first-hand the challenges local governments face in creating sustainable communities. Subsequently, he gained valuable business sector experience as a social and environmental entrepreneur owning and operating a zero-emission transportation business in downtown San Jose that employed 15 at-risk young adults. For eleven years he served in several positions of increasing responsibility with the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC), a job-training and charter high school for under-resourced youth. As the Deputy Director of Operations of the SJCC, he was responsible for program development and management. His position included relationship building, fundraising, complex budget work as well as ongoing program evaluation and reporting. A significant portion of his job involved writing and managing grants from various agencies. The SJCC was recognized as a national model in 2003 by the National Youth Employment Coalition and the United States Department of Labor. Additionally, the SJCC received the Acterra Business Environmental Award in 2005 for Social Equity for Sustainability. Some of Dorsey’s special skills involve leveraging funding from multiple sources and creating strategic partnerships to achieve common community goals. He has extensive grant writing experience in environmental conservation, education, community health care and social services areas. Through his professional and personal experience he has developed a broad familiarity with the many non-profit and public agencies throughout California.
